Psychogeography By Algorithm: Alternating Travel

For this task we began on Windermere Avenue, near Morden Station. We walked north until reaching a cross road and turned left on Kenley Road. We took the next right onto Wessex Avenue followed by a left then a right onto two unnamed roads where found a dead end and so reached the end of our journey.

Though these roads were familiar to the group, the lack of a destination was liberating. We were not focused on reaching the journeys end, but the journey itself. Prompted by the task instructions we fully engaged with our surroundings throughout the trip and attempted to document the collective experience through photography. Combinations of colour, different surface textures and previously unnoticed details were all very apparent. Red leaves against the blue sky, the form of a crushed coke can and the play of light reflected off a polished driveway all became increasingly vivid.

Recreating this experience for the reader is a challenge. We decided on a blog, using the photographs which capture the experience most faithfully. We hope that this way of presenting the documentation will engage the reader and lead them from detail to detail in the same way the group was lead in the journey itself.
